Flood Relief for Cape Breton Family

Unprecedented floods in Cape Breton Island caused by Hurricane Matthew have forced my brother and his family from their in Sydney, Nova Scotia home. The situation is dire and insurance doesn't cover the damage. Trish, James, Kevin and Aidan are homeless and in need of assistance to enable them to regain their footing and continue their wonderful contributions to their community as healthcare workers and students respectively. Funds will be used to return the house to liveable conditions so they can resume their lives.

I'm John Munroe and Trish and James have authorized me to initiate this campaign to help them recover. All funds will be transferred to Trish and James as soon as GoFundMe procedures are complete.

Message from Trish:

Hi there. Thanks to everyone who has called and messaged your support and offers of help. Proving yet again what a spectacularly amazing community we live in. Our immediate focus is to try and save our house. Our insurance company , Travellers , has informed us we have zero coverage. We got the water pumped out of our house. The next thing is to remove all the things that are retaining moisture from our house before the dampness does more damage to the structure. The companies who do this work locally are having to focus on who the insurance companies send them to. We would like to hire anyone who does this kind of work so that would be a help if anyone can help with that. We were given DELIOS as a suggestion and we will contact them later. Before that we have to go to the house and document the damage with photos and videos. Once that is done we have to dry out rhe place with fans and dehumidifiers. That can't happen until the power is safely restored an we have no idea when that can be. We are looking for a lawyer to help us with insurance so if any one knows who that would be let me know. We need that lawyer to start immediately to send a letter to our insurance company. We are meeting with the mayor at 11 this morning and will be at our house before that. We need someone to stay with Aidan this morning at my sisters if anyone can do that. We will be staying at a friends in Coxheath but if any one knows of an empty house or apartment in the city we would use that until our house is liveable again. That is my update for now. Had some sleep last night so feel ready to tackle the day....after i have some coffee of course!
