Flood Relief for Neal and Matlock Family

Donation protected

On March 27, 2021,  during a detrimental flash flood storm, my mom, stepdad, 2 sisters, 3 dogs, 4 cats, and myself suffered a devastating flood to our home and belongings. Thankfully, we were able to evacuate in time to get ourselves and furbabies into a safe environment, but our house and most personal effects weren’t so lucky. We thought we would be okay, but nothing could’ve prepared us for what happened next. What started as just another storm and us putting up barriers and sand bag after sand bag, ended with our house being submerged with over 4 feet of water, mud, and debris. It didn’t matter that we had just built a new retaining wall to keep out the water or had just completely redone our entire home recovering from the last flood, because we returned the next day to find out two levels of our house were destroyed.

Unfortunately, we do live in a flood plain, but because the insurance is so expensive all we can afford is the house coverage, and that doesn’t cover any of the personal items that were demolished, or the privacy fences that were ripped down from the current of the water.

I am still in complete shock that this happened. We haven’t even lived in this house a year, and in a matter of hours, everything was left in ruin. My sisters room was on the lower level, her entire life was in there, and now, it’s all gone.

Every picture, every childhood keepsake, every article of clothing, every textbook, every electronic, basically everything on the lower two levels is completely demolished. Along with many other things, our washer and dryer were completely flipped over and ruined.

Everything in our lives have been turned upside down, and trying to face it all is extremely disheartening. This is the first house my mother has bought in her 45 years of living. I remember how hard she has worked in her life to get here and all of the things she has had to overcome. I remember how proud she was to finally say she owns a house, but none of that matters now. My mom is one of the most selfless people I know, she is an art teacher at an underprivileged elementary school and spends all of her time helping others. She has been through too much in her lifetime for one person, and all I wanna do is help, so please if you can give anything at all or just share this, we will be forever grateful, thank you so much.
