Flood relief in Tukche Village in Mustang , Nepal

Our ancestral village Tukche lies in
the Himalayan region of Mustang in Nepal has been devastated by flooding recently by both the Kali Gandaki River & Lhang Kyu (Thapa Khola).   

Tukche Village has about 400 inhabitants who are primarily dependent upon agriculture & apple farming.  Thapa Khola is a tributary of the Kali Gandaki River that runs south of the village. Unprecedented monsoon rain has caused Thapa Khola to flood & destroy the farm land, apple orchards & local people's livelihood. The khola (small river) is about to enter the village & cause even more destruction.

Tukche is also facing a problem of water logging due to the flooding.  The water logging in the eastern part of the village closer to the historical Customs Office & by the bank of the Kali Gandaki River has caused Buddhist monuments like chortens, prayer wheel walls to collapse. These monuments need to be preserved & saved as they are part of the local culture & history. 

Tukche is a historical village in the Mustang region of Nepal because of the Salt Trade from the Indo-Gangetic Plains to Tibet. The Nepalese Customs Office was located in Tukche from the 17th - 18th century. Tukche's significance is also proven by the presence 
of 4 Tibetan Buddhist gompas  (monastaries)- Rani, Sambha, Tukche & Kyuber gompas.
In addition, the historical importance of Tukche is further established as it is also the home of the Thakali Cultural Museum, Thak Library & the famous Tukche  Distillery . 

The funds raised will be used for:
1) flood prevention/protection for the village .
2) stabilization of the water logged area, &, preservation & rehabilitation of local historical Buddhist monuments. 

100% of the Funds that will be raised will be transferred to the local community in Tukche Village in Mustang, Nepal lead by a 11 member local committee that includes Mr Nirjhar Sherchan & Ms. Bimala Tulachan. They along with local community will utilize 100% of the funds for flood relief.
