Flood USA Decathlon

Donation protected
Hi my name is Jack Flood and I am a Decathlete from Bayport Blue Point, Long Island training for the 2020 Olympic games.

This past year 2[phone redacted] was one for the books. I placed 3rd at the USA indoor championship in the heptathlon and placed 8th at my first USA Outdoor track and field championship in the Decathlon. Because I placed in the top 10 at USA’s I was selected to compete in the Thorpe Cup held in Germany where I had the opportunity to represent the USA. I ended up placing 4th at that meet (my first international track and field experience). Just two years prior I was an unknown Division 3 athlete far away from the level that I am at now. All I did was put a massive amount of work in and believe in myself. I always knew there was an enormous amount of improvement left in me when my NCAA eligibility ran out. Every year since I began the decathlon(2014) I have been consistently progressing and I don’t see it stopping. I believe I will be one of the top decathletes in the world one day. This is a critical year in my development as a future world class decathlete.

The 2[phone redacted] season  was definitely the biggest one yet for me but I wasn't able to be entirely focused on training. During that  fall/Winter and a portion of the spring I was student teaching/coaching at Smithtown West HS to finish up my Physical Education degree from SUNY Cortland. I had an unforgettable experience with my time there but there was a couple of issues with being in that situation. I was training alone, with no coach, in frigid weather and without one of the events, the pole vault. This situation was not ideal to reach my full potential. I just showed up everyday and did what I had to do with what I had. I made sure I made  the most of it.

With that said, If I got that far this past year with all of that going on, imagine how much further I can go if I spend all of my time and energy into just the decathlon and training this upcoming year.

The limit doesn’t exist.

I have 7 months to prepare for the Olympic Trials which are set on June 20-21 at the University of Oregon. I am currently living in North Carolina training under my Coach Mike Young at Athletic Lab. I am substitute teaching around schools in wake county for work and doing my training after school.

I am earning no income as of right now from all of the training and preparation for the Olympic Trials. I am doing this because I have an opportunity of a lifetime to do something phenomenal. There is only a small window where I will be able to do this in the grand scheme of life.

Any funds donated will go directly to cover fees which are necessary to reach my full potential.

This includes:

-Coaching

- Travel

-Entry fees

-Hotel rooms

- Different event spikes

-Physical Therapy

I understand I could just become a full time teacher and coach to support all of this but then I would have no time or tunnel vision focus that is absolutely required to be a World class Decathlete.

Any donations to support me would be a gamechanger in my life and propel me to be the future world class Decathlete I know I am meant to be.

I ask myself why try to do this alone and make the journey harder on myself  when I can simply ask for support? I didn’t come this far to only get this far.

Please share to spread the word

Thank you
