Disaster Relief-Kauai Canoe Clubs!
Spende geschützt
Severe flooding has caused an enormous amount of damage to some of our canoe clubs on Kauai. Hanalei Canoe Club and NaMolokama Canoe Club were hit the hardest. They have lost most of their canoes and equipment. We don't even know the full extent of the damage yet, but we'd like to get started helping them recover. Please donate and spread the word!
-Organized by local outrigger canoe racing association Kauai Outrigger Association (koapaddler.org). These clubs can also use good old fashioned kokua, so make sure to comment if you'd like to find out how.
Badly damaged wa'a
Paddling clubs are often the lifeblood of a community. Reaching hundreds of local keiki each year our clubs give back to community and help build and maintain strong culture. It's a huge loss to everyone for these clubs to be devastated and will take years for them to get back on their feet without our help!
Update. Gofundme have asked to add the following data. Makes sense :) it's stuff about us and what we're doing to do with the money!
1) Who you are and where you’re from.
Specifically I am Rocco April, Vice President of Hui O Mana Ka Pu'uwai (puuwai.org) and Secretary of Kauai Outrigger Association (or KOA (koapaddler.org)). More broadly we are collecting these funds as KOA and we are all from around the island of Kauai in the state of Hawaii.
2) Your relationship or contact to the parties you're raising funds for.
The donations are being collected to assist Namolokama and Hanalei canoe clubs. They are member clubs in Kauai Outrigger Association and the rest of the clubs (see the list here: koapaddler.org/clubs/) will be helping out and seeking donations. As secretary for KOA, I am leading the effort here on gofundme.
3) How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible)
These kind donations will be used to replace/fix outrigger canoes and associated equipment for these clubs. Each racing canoe is around 20k and our smaller one-man canoes are each around 5k. As you can see from the photos above, it adds up quickly.
4) Your withdrawal plan to get the funds from the campaign to the ultimate beneficiary/ies
The donations will be withdrawn into my personal account and (as fairly as we can) split between the affected clubs via checks written directly to their organizations.
