Flooding in eastern KY: Can You Help?

Tax deductible
Hi, I'm Carol Cecil, Executive Director for Kentucky Partnership for Families and Children, Inc. (KPFC). KPFC helps families across the Commonwealth who are raising children with behavioral health challenges. We offer virtual peer support services, advocacy and educational opportunities, and acceptance! We are families and young people who have "been there, done that," helping those who "are there, doing it now!"

Kentucky Partnership for Families and Children, Inc. (KPFC) has three employees and many partners that live in the hard-hit flood area in eastern Kentucky. One co-worker shared that her sister's children climbed the mountain to escape the flood; they then watched their house and everything in it be washed away. Another co-worker still has her house, but it did sustain a lot of damage. Our third co-worker in the area said her home was okay, but the flood wiped out at least ten homes in their holler. Our community partners at Kentucky River Community Care and their customers are devastated. Many lost their belongings, houses, cars, electricity, clean water, and so much more.

KPFC will deliver 100 emergency/disaster preparedness kits, including a cooler, a few water purification tablets, battery-operated lanterns, first aid kits, etc. What we now realize is that there is so much more needed. The water purification tablets will help, but there are not enough to sustain until clean water is available. We've also been told feminine hygiene products, baby products, shoes, underwear, clothes, etc., are ALL needed. The funds will go to purchase gravity water purification kits and other items listed above!

If you live in or near Frankfort, you are welcome to bring items to KPFC's office at 600 Teton Trail. Things to bring include bottled water; clothes of all kinds and of all sizes; baby items such as formula, bottles, diapers, wipes, etc.; toys to help the children have some sense of normalcy; cleaning supplies; and anything else you think would be helpful. KPFC, and our state partners, will be taking items to eastern Kentucky over the next month or more!

We appreciate your kindness!
