Utterly captivating and instantly endearing’ – Russel Jeanes, Moderator at Fresh On The Net.

Well hello there!

Why I need YOUR support!

With your support, I will be able to record my album in a professional studio, budgeting for studio recording/rehearsal time, session musicians, engineer/producer/mixing fees, mastering, promo video, album artwork and consequent travel costs.

Your support will open new doors and opportunities for me, giving me the time, I need to focus on my creative development, create high quality music, reach a larger audience and develop new skills needed to be a truly independent artist. It’s a challenging time to envision a future as an independent artist, but with hope and your support I know I can make music that can connect with more people as we move through this difficult time.

I would LOVE by JANUARY to raise the full amount to complete the recording of an album for YOU, ready for the beginning of 2021!!

These are the ways in which you could help me to launch my career:

Let me tell you a bit about myself!
I’m Flo Perlin, an independent singer-songwriter.
I was born in London into a family of musical lovers.
Growing up I was influenced by a huge variety of artists such as Joni Mitchel, Nick Drake, Buena Vista Social Club, with my earliest memory listening to Stevie Wonder, being cradled by my Dad. As I grew, I absorbed the sounds of newer artists such as Laura Marling, Melody Gardot and Erykah Badu.

I started learning cello at age 5, going on to teach myself piano and guitar.
This led to a passion (and a need) to express myself through song-writing, reflecting my personal experiences on topics such as family, change, belonging, nostalgia and love. Pursuing my dream to become a musician, I briefly studied at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts but was disillusioned by the pressure within the music industry to manufacture my music, so set off travelling around the world, shifting my career path elsewhere.
My connection to music has always stayed and I continued to write and perform my music, leading to the successful, well-reviewed release of my first album in 2017, Cocooned

In 2019, I released my EP entitled Stories. It was very well received by critics who cited that the songs are ‘written from the depths of her soul' (With Just a Hint of Mayhem). As a result, I won a song-writing mentorship with The Nest Collective (BBC Folk Club).
This led me to performing alongside a number of incredible artists including Sam Lee, Peggy Seeger and Calum MacCol. These were such beautiful experiences in which I learnt how I wanted to compose myself as an artist and the importance of human dignity which can easily be lost within the music industry. My music has been aired numerous times on BBC Introducing and on BBC Radio 6. I also received a favourable review on Fresh On The Net (Tom Robinson) who emphasised that my music is 'as good as anything I’ve personally heard for some time!'

I am so fortunate to have had these experiences but also to have fans who want to hear more and want to support my music.

I’ve been busy writing my new album which is more than ready to be released to the world, but I need your help to do this! It’s often difficult doing these things as an independent female artist in a male-dominated industry but with a new record, not only would I be able to share my music but I’d also have the opportunity to progress my career and start reaching a larger audience. It would help me to get new bookings and learn new skills which I will most certainly use to continue making high quality music for you!

My listeners are a bit like me, in the way that they have a similar emotional landscape. As Laura Marling puts it, “they’re not adoring, they’re connecting”. Rather than being placed on a pedestal, I think fans see me as someone who articulates familiar personal experiences for them, holding sentimental value.

Drawing on my life experience as a woman, with mixed Iraqi and Belarusian heritage, and my experiences touring the Middle East, Asia, USA and UK, I am confident that my album will speak to many people’s experiences in life, especially those whose voices are rarely heard, including LGBT, BAME and female audiences of all ages.

This project will be a milestone in my creative and emotional development – a very personal project, reflecting my experiences and my journey in therapy through my music, empowering people to embrace how they feel, reflect upon their experiences and explore themselves and the world we live in now.

Words cannot express my appreciation for your support. But songs can.

‘I wish I could send your music back in time to my teenage years. It would have been great comfort to me’ - Dedicated fan, Hannah Davies.

totally captivating - sweet wise life affirming - to hear a heart so open is awe inspiring’ – Passionate fan, Jolly G
