Fluid: Dance Film Trilogy

My name is Michael Bishop, and I'm the creator of the dance film trilogy, "Fluid," What is "Fluid"? It is a trilogy that highlights the hardships and the beauty of the African American experience through music, prose, and dance. Starting from the middle passage and ending with self-acceptance, "Fluid" will take you on an emotional journey that will leave you hopeful, inspired, and ready to continue the work to bring about healing.

The three short films that make up this series are "These Waters Bleed Deep," "Tone:nal," and "Chesed." Each of these films can stand alone, but together they complete a story of affliction, triumph, and love.

"These Waters Bleed Deep" has already been completed and accepted into the Dances With Films LA Festival. This short speaks to the physical and emotional trauma that the enslaved Africans faced on their journey to the Americas. During its second half, we transition into the power of African magnificence.

"Tone:nal" revisits colorism and its adverse effects on the modern-day African American community. Through the lens of historical reference, raw honesty, emotional and dynamic movement, and stunning visuals, "Tone:nal" flips the conversation of colorism, taking you from a journey of pain to one of celebration.

"Chesed," which roughly translates to love in the Hebrew language, challenges the ideas of sexuality within the context of religion, revealing the struggles of doubt and self-hate. This film inspires a look into the connection between acceptance, faith, and community. Exposing the burden of hypocrisy, "Chesed" opens the door to a thoughtful perspective on love and forgiveness.
