Flute Overhaul Servicing

As I prepare for my upcoming auditions, recitals, and teaching engagements, I kindly ask if anyone would be willing to contribute to my savings fund for my flute's first overhaul. I would be very grateful for your support! In December, my Haynes flute will mark its 10th anniversary, and it is time for it to receive a complete overhaul.

An overhaul involves removing all pads, felts, adjustments, and corks and inspecting all solder seams. The instrument is then cleaned and lightly polished. The mechanism is refitted, and any loose or worn springs are replaced as needed. Tenons are refitted, and new pads, felts, corks, and adjustments are installed. Finally, the instrument is inspected and play-tested. According to the Haynes Flute Company, overhauls should be performed every 5-10 years, depending on usage and maintenance company.
