SupportMimi’s 2024 OLYMPIC Qualification Events!

Hello family and friends! First and foremost, a BIG THANK YOU to all of you for always supporting while I chase my dreams of representing Ghana at the Olympics! If you don’t already know me, my name is Marie Korkor Agbah-Hughes. Fondly called Mimi in the weightlifting world and Korkor Girl by my family :) I’m a Ghanaian based Weightlifting Athlete in Connecticut, USA. For the past 6 years, I switched to strictly committing and training in sport of Olympic Weightlifting in hopes to represent Ghana in the Olympics. This journey has had its ups and downs from the pandemic changing my life, training outdoors on my porch to injuries that required surgery. However, none of those set backs can take away the amazing opportunities I’ve had to win medals in CT/NY, competing a couple of times at the American Open and sharing my Ghanaian heritage in the weightlifting community here in the US and around the world. One of my greatest accomplishments thus far was being selected to compete in Internationally in Egypt in 2022! I am Honored to announce that I have been selected once again to represent my home country Ghana in Tunisia AND North America in the next 2 months. I’ll be heading to the African Senior Championships May 11th to 20th, 2023 and then shortly after that, the IWF Grand Prix June 8th to 18th, 2023! This time around, the competitions are Qualification events for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and my participation helps improve my journey towards the Olympic and Commonwealth Games. This fundraiser will help fund my flights, entry/anti-doping fees and necessary accommodations from May to June 2023. In preparation for these 2 International competitions, I will need to travel to several different countries for training camps before and between both Championships. This means getting on about 6 to 7 different flights for travel to reach my Coach, Ghanaian Team training and the facilities and events that will help me reach fullest athletic potential as a true Olympic Hopeful! This is what the schedule will look like from May 6th, 2023 to June 19th, 2023: Training Camp in London before Tunisia African Championships. Then competing in Tunisia African Champs. Then Training in Ghana and IWF Coaching Course/Training in Kenya For the Grand Prix Then back to North America to compete! Cost for Trip: Flights Total: $3,682.85 Registration and Anti Doping fees: $625.13 (Both Championships) Accommodation: Athletes village/Lodging (food included) African Champs:- $140/night x5 nights $700 (+4 extra nights sponsored) IWF Grand Prix:- $185/night x 5 nights total= $926 London: $130/night x6 nights total= $780 Kenya: sponsored Ghana: covered by Family Total = $6,713.98 This is a rough estimate of how much funding I’ll need towards the two trips in May & June Championships!
