We lost everything, but we have each other

My name is Emily. My son and I live in Northport in a garden apartment community. The apartment below us went on fire the morning. We were lucky to get out. My son was sleeping in a black smoke-filled room when we woke up to the downstairs apartment yelling “fire.” He was treated for CO poisoning and is thankfully okay. We are grateful to have our lives.

Everything we own has been destroyed by the fire, smoke and water.

The fire traveled up the walls into our apartment. The fire department cut holes in the roof, the floors and tore out walls to put the fire out.

We have no idea what it’s going to cost to replace even the basic items we need to carry on with our lives- clothes, shoes, computer, medications, etc. All help is appreciated. If you can only donate a few dollars, that’s a pair of much needed socks. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please don’t send anything to our address if you personally know us. The apartment is condemned and we’re not sure where we will be living.
