Epic Adventure to support two Perth families

My name is Aaron Young. John Gilbertson and I are commencing an epic journey along the Mundabiddi Trail from Perth to Albany - stopping along the way to compete in Birdys Backyard Ultra, an ultra-marathon that involves competitors completing a 6.71km loop every hour until there is only one person remaining. It could last for several days.

John received a terminal cancer diagnosis earlier in the year. However, he is a super positive person and has taken this as an opportunity to be adventurous and spend time with friends and family. Despite this diagnosis, he still helps many others around him, and we are hoping that we can help others by taking on challenging adventures such as this trip. We are hoping that our journey can help support two families and are raising funds for a young family who recently lost their daughter at Perth Children’s Hospital and another family travelling to the US for life-saving cancer treatment.

Charmain Blurton and Cody Yappo lost their baby daughter Kailee in tragic circumstances at Perth Children’s Hospital in late June. As a young First Nations family grieving the loss of their daughter while also battling homelessness, Charmain and Cody need assistance with funeral costs and to rebuild their lives whilst supporting their other daughter who is only a few months old.

Peter and Samantha Shinnick are currently in the US undergoing testing to see if Pete could have surgery that would potentially save his life. Only 50 years old and father to four beautiful teenagers, Pete was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 14 months ago and is currently receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Pete is beloved in the running community and known for his generosity after supporting many individuals and causes in the past.
