Thank you all for your love and support on this journey. I appreciate all of the kind words and willingness to help. The goal of this page is to raise money that will be used to help manage costs associated with my medical treatment and other obstacles along the way.

About Hailey

Hailey is 23 years old and was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hailey attended Grand Valley State University from 2018-2022 and obtained her bachelor's degree in behavioral neuroscience and biology. Hailey chose to continue her education at Grand Valley, and just finished her first semester of Grand Valley's accelerated nursing program. Hailey currently works in the Emergency Department at the Helen Devos Children's Hospital and hopes to become a pediatric emergency nurse after graduation.

While at Grand Valley, Hailey was a 4-year athlete on the rowing team, helping her crew secure two National Championship titles for Grand Valley. Hailey looks back at her time and memories with the team as some of the most impactful in her life and she remains very close with her former teammates. After graduation, Hailey helped coach the Forest Hills Eastern High School's rowing team, and she continues to be an involved member of the larger rowing community.

Medical Background

On Monday, December 11th, Hailey was given a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. She had not been feeling well for about 2 weeks and thought she just had a cold. On Friday, December 8th, she noticed a spot that looked similar to a staph infection which progressed quickly and became painful. As a result, Hailey went to the ER on Sunday, December 10th.

In the ER, Hailey's symptoms lead to some basic labs being drawn. Those labs came back with critically high WBCs, critically low platelets, and critically high blasts manual. With those results, the PA in the ER consulted oncology. Around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, December 11th, she was transferred to the oncology floor and has remained there since.

Treatment

Hailey started chemotherapy Thursday, December 14th. She has since finished her first round and her spirits remain high. Her treatment and battle, however, are far from over. Hailey is hoping to return home mid-January, where she will continue chemotherapy on an semi-outpatient basis, employing a cycle of 5 days in the hospital followed by 28 days at home. There are still many unknowns regarding Hailey's treatment, and the costs continue to accumulate.

Thank you

Hailey's motto at this time is that though her counts are low, her morale is high. Hailey believes her years of rowing at Grand Valley have provided her with vital lessons in grit, determination, and overcoming adversity. She continues to pull for her teammates in this battle, and she knows that they are all pulling for her too. In this way, and many others, Hailey continues to lean on her friends, family, and community during this challenging time. She thanks everyone for the continued love and support.
