FUNDRAISER for STAGE A CHANGE
You might be familiar with this name as we did a fundraiser for @stageachange and @aocinitiative last year as our closing concert of 2020. We are so happy to announce that we will be fundraising for them this time around again, and are so thankful for their patience.
StageAChange is an organisation that aims to create professional opportunities throughout the theatre industry, supporting artists, and helping people who are interested in the industry, particularly Indigenous and/or Bla(c)k and/or People of Colour (IBPOC), find their pathways to a professional career. In light of the Gadigal/Sydney, Whadjuk Noongar/Perth, Meanjin/Queensland, Larrakia/Darwin lockdown, it further highlights the massive hit the arts has had to endure without any government support. We need financial support to help artists through these tough times, and more so for IBPOC performers - many of who are in more disadvantageous positions as compared to others.
I would like to acknowledge that drama schools in particular are built on a system that disadvantages many people who aren't able to afford training from a young age. The more IBPOC performers can be showcased, the more younger folk who look like us can be encouraged to pursue this path. It will take a lot of hard work to decolonise & dismantle this system and build a new one, which many hard-working people in the industry who share this same vision who have done to date. We are continuing to work very hard on an unannounced project to make sure that this happens. We always can and must do better for the future of the generations to come.
