We are blessed to have FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) in Dublin, Ireland, and we want to share that mission across the west of Ireland! We are part of a Bible Study and are active in our Parish Youth Ministry, we are called to share the Gospel with our peers in the future. We would love the opportunity to go to the Leadership Conference with FOCUS and be equipped with what we need to come home to Galway and share the Good News. Thank you for your support! Monies raised will go to Conference registration and airfare.

Here's a little about us:

Katie

My name is Katie, I am a 19 years old student from Galway.
When I was 16 I had a big conversion in my faith. It started in TY when a new youth minister came to our parish. He started teaching about the faith in my school. I didn’t have him as a teacher but all my friends did. They would constantly tell me you should come to this class or at least meet this new guy. I ended up skipping some of my classes to go but only because all my friends were in it, I didn’t care about what he was talking about I was just there to talk to my friends. But after going to a few of his classes I started to listen and I got very drawn in by the passion and the fire he had inside of him for God. I thought to myself that this is what I want and what I’ve been looking for this whole time. After that I started going to all of his classes even to the ones my friends weren’t in because I just had so many questions and he always had the answer.
In August 2019 I went on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. It was an amazing experience and  hopefully I’ll get to go back. When coming back home our youth group leader who brought us over had told myself and my friend Marta that a priest had handpicked us out of the group as leaders. From there we were told about SLS and I think that it would be a really good experience for us to make our first step into ministry.
Over the past 2 1/2 years I’ve really grown in my faith and just want to be able to share it with everyone else just in the same way it was shared with me because it changed my life forever, we just need a little help.

Marta:

My name is Marta, I’m 18 years old and I am a Leaving Cert student from Galway.

I originally come from Poland, which is where the journey of my faith began. From a very young age, as young as 2-3 years old. My granny introduced me to my faith. She used to bring me to mass, taught me my first ever prayer that I still say to this day and gave me a picture of the guardian angel which is still kept at my bedside table.

When I was 4 years old I moved to Ireland which is where I leaned away from my faith and didn’t take it seriously enough up until I was around 15 years old when a youth minister came to my town to teach religion in my school and I was blessed enough to have him as my religion teacher and I was instantly drawn to everything he taught us and I knew that this is something amazing and I know it’s not something I will ignore ever again. Since then I’ve been going to mass regularly with my friends, attending youth group and recently attending bible studies which I enjoy very much.

In late July of 2019 myself and our parish and a couple other parishes around Galway and Mayo had the amazing opportunity to go to Medjugorje for the youth festival which was truly the most fantastic, indescribable and surreal trip I’ve ever been on and definitely will be returning in the future to come.

I came back from medjugorje with news that I have been chosen to become a youth group leader for children who are going to be confirmed in February 2020 in our local parish. Knowing I have no leadership experience, with this news I was also told that we also have the possibility to go to SLS in Phoenix, Arizona in late December early January which again was mind-blowing news! It would mean the absolute world to go because I love the idea of being drawn closer and closer to God and would do anything for it, which is what I believe this trip would do for me.

Thank you for your time.
