About The Bingham Cup
The Bingham Cup is the world championship of gay and inclusive rugby teams and is one of the largest men’s 15-aside rugby union tournaments in the sporting calendar outside of the IRB Rugby World Cup.
It is named in honor of one of our brothers, Mark Bingham, and is officially sponsored by the Rugby Football Union. Mark was tragically taken from us on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, during the terrorist attack on our nation. He was one of the 38 passengers on hijacked United Airlines flight 93 that crashed outside of Pittsburgh. Mark was 31 years old. He epitomized what it means to be a Fog rugger, and we all learned a great deal from him. Aside from being a superb player, “Bear Trap” was a true gentleman and a generous friend. He is sorely missed.
The seventh Bingham Cup will be held in Sydney, Australia, August 24-31, 2014. The SF Fog seeks to bring the coveted Bingham Cup trophy back to San Francisco!
Thank you, and as we like to say during the heat of battle on the pitch, Roll Fog Roll!
