Fokky

This is Fokky´s story.

Born with severe deformities in both front legs, Fokky was unable to walk—his only way to move was by shuffling along like a little seal (hence his name...foca is seal in spanish). His future was uncertain, and his breeder, unable to care for a disabled puppy, made the heartbreaking decision to have him put to sleep.

He was just 8 weeks old.

By pure chance, I was at the vet’s on the very day Fokky was scheduled to be euthanized. I knew I couldn’t let that happen. So after alot of emotional conversations, Fokky came home with us, and our journey together began.

He was so little and vunerable but so determind and brave. He fitted in perfectly. He shares his home with three other dogs and he is so full of love and joy, always eager to play and be part of the action, despite his mobility challenges. His spirit is unbreakable, and he deserves the chance to live life to the fullest.

He has adapted to life in his own way, never letting his disability get in the way, but as he grows, life gets hard and more painful. He is now about 55kg and still growing. We have been visiting the vet for months, managing the pain and trying to find a way to help him, we finally met with Dr. Gabriel Carbonell from the mainland (he comes to Ibiza every couple of months), who can perform life-changing operations on Fokky’s legs when he is skeletally fully grown which is very soon. There was so much joy when we heard this. But, there is always a but, the cost is overwhelming: €4,000 per leg, €8,000 in total.

We never imagined we’d have to ask for help, but this is more than we can manage alone. So we’re reaching out, hoping that together, we can give Fokky the life he truly deserves.
