Fokus Simmons Recovery

As a lot of you may know My 16 year old brother fokus was in a terrible motor vehicle accident on his way to basketball practice on January 11th 2024.
An ambulance responding to a call pulled out in front of the car causing them to collide, & killing the driver Kelsey Siebel.
Fokus was life flighted to Newport Hospital from the scene & then driven via ambulance to Good Samaritan hospital in Corvallis.
He has suffered a very very serious Brain injury and had emergency brain surgery that night, where they removed his skull flap to ease pressure from the swelling of his Brain, along with another surgery to repair internal bleeding/ collapsed lung.
He had been in the ICU for about 3 months.
He was in a coma for awhile but is now in an obtunded state. He cannot talk but he does open his eyes. He is currently in the progressive care unit in corvallis as He has been so strong through all of this, we can tell he is fighting so hard.
He has made a lot of progress since the accident, & we are aware that it will take a LOT more time to continue making small amounts of progress.
We are staying hopeful although, the outcome is completely unpredictable & isn’t looking good.
This morning 4/14/24 he had another brain surgery to put a tube in his head to drain some of the fluid around his Brain in hopes to get some swelling down to soon replace his bone flap that has been out for 4 months!
During this time his mother who lives on the coast has been staying wherever she can close to the hospital. So many people have been generous to offer her options. Although those options still come with costs, as well as bills at home, gas for when she has to make trips back to the coast to care for her home & animals, meals, & unfortunately
along with all of that there are still BIG looming costs for Fokus’ long term care that insurance will NOT cover.
Fokus’ mom, Elizabeth is a hair dresser and has not been able to work during this time, she has to stay with fokus as much as she can because he is a minor and incase any consent for further procedures is needed to be given she can do that, but not to mention fokus is her baby so she’s been at his bedside constantly.
She has been a single mother & sole provider for herself & fokus all of his life as our father passed away just 6 months after fokus was born.
So any support is beyond appreciated.
Our family is overwhelmed with the support and love we have received thus far & cannot Thank-you enough.
Liz and fokus have always been amazing people and it breaks my heart to know that this is the reality of things right now, as they do not deserve it at all.
There is a venmo set up for Fokus’ road to recovery as well.
