Following Nan Expedition

Donation protected
Adventure culture focuses on reaching summits and beating PBs. But is there another way? Is there more out there than munro-bagging? Does a female perspective offer a different way?
Following in the steps of Nan Shepherd, an all female team explore what happens if we slow down, wander and connect with the natural world.

Nan Shepherd was a nature writer and Cairngorm explorer of the mid-1900s. Taking her work ‘The Living Mountain’, the team will retrace her steps through the Cairngorms, wild-camp and swim as she had done - long before it was fashionable.

The team have a range of outdoors experience with some members completely new to wild-camping. We’ve intentionally recruited a diverse team to promote more diverse representation and are from a mix of faiths, backgrounds, ethnicities and ages. We’ve all felt the lack of slow paced adventure along with female representation in the outdoors and adventure world and felt how much of a difference it has made when we have found role models we can relate to.

The creation of this film has the power to promote a respectful, slower paced relationship with nature, empower women in the outdoors and deliver effective environmental education.

Through the film of the expedition, we will:

1) Advocate for fully experiencing nature - not just trying to summit, bag or conquer it.
2) Empower women of all backgrounds getting into the outdoors
3) Promote awareness of Nan’s style

The creation of this film has the power to promote a respectful, slower paced relationship with nature and empower women in the outdoors. In addition to the film we’re developing creative and accessible products such as music, articles, photography to also share Nan’s style and open up the outdoors to more people.

If you have the means to help support this, it would be invaluable in enabling us to create the film and other products and share them with target audiences. Any donation will be greatly appreciated, deeply valued, and credited in our film. With your help we can promote a slowed down respectful relationship with our environment.
