Food and a cell for John Henshaw in San Pedro jail

Donation protected
John has found himself in one of the worst prisons in South America.

He's been thrown in San Pedro, La paz, Bolivia which is featured on an episode of "Worlds Toughest Jails".

It's 30-90 days until they look at his case (he was carrying 2 joints worth of weed, that he forgot he had)

The prison is left to the prisoners. All the guards are on the outside, they never go inside.

He's spent all of his money on a lawyer and fees, with more to come and a fine. You have to pay to be in the prison and then pay for the safety of a cell, otherwise you sleep in the corridors, basically living rough, on the streets of the worst jail of the poorest country in the Americas, and can be a very dangerous place on the outside of the jail, never mind inside.

John's having a rough time, he needs some help by way of money, for food and his own cell. Once he's finally out, he will have a fine and lawyer fees, on top of buying flights home.

Any amount will be appreciated by him right now.... The money will be sent to the UK foreign office, who will get the money to the consulate to help him.

UPDATE:

I've spoke to John very briefly on Monday. He's in the San Pedro induction type holding cell, crammed in with alot of other prisoners, he's there for 5 days then he will have a cell. I'm in touch with the British consulate of Bolivia who's bringing him some water, food and toiletries.

When I spoke to John he sounded himself, this was during the proccessing at San Pedro. He's met someone who speaks English in there and the lawyer has also asked someone he knows in the prison to look out for him..

John said he massively appreciates everyone who is helping and donating.

I think he will be OK once he has his own cell, if he keeps his head down and locks himself in at night.

But make no mistake about it, he's in a very very dangerous and scary postion, that he doesnt deserve to be in. Only a couple of people even speak the same language. A position that I don't think anybody in our luxury, clean and safe homes in England, can begin to imagine.

All anybody can do to help, is either visit him (once he's in a cell, there's alot of visiting time) or donate.
