Food and Shalter During Job Search

Hi, my name is Shane E Bryan and after a series of unfortunate events, I've found myself broke and homeless. 3 years of one thing after another has led to me being frozen with fear and in emergency mode. While in emergency mode I haven't been managing my life very well at all. I tried many things to fix the path I was on but often was jumping from one thing to another with no clear direction. Just hoping something would work.
So in order to get back on track, I have decided to create a plan to find a job. I need to find stability for the next few years so I can focus on building back my life!
I've been an entrepreneur for most of my adult life and held the belief that I needed to focus solely on that. But after being kicked to the curb by life several times in the last three years I'm finely getting the message. Find a career and focus on the rest in my spare time. If you know me personally you know this is not easy for me to say. I have sacrificed everything in the pursuit of my passions and faced every inner turmoil with determination and resolve. But we all have our limits.
So what kind of job am I after? I've self-taught myself to be a software developer for over 13 years. But because of my limited use of my hands due to what my doctors thought was a debilitating movement disorder called Dystonia, I let the fear of rejection keep me from trying to make a career out of those skills.
But after the last 3 years, I've had a crash course in facing my fears! Not to mention during all this craziness there's been a ray of hope, I've been regaining control of my hands! These prompted a meeting with a couple of specialists who both agree it's not Dystonia but a functional movement disorder. I can and will regain full control and the ability to type!
So here's my plan to get that software development job:
- Since I do not have a portfolio to showcase my skills I will start coding some examples of what I can do. To do this with the most impact and overcome any issues I might have with coding tests, I'm going to be during this live on YouTube on a series of daily coding marathons. YouTube Channel Commence to Code
- While I'm performing these daily coding marathons I will be encouraging anyone watching who has a position open to submit job offers during the live stream. This may or may not work but it gets things rolling while I'm creating the portfolio I'll use in my resume.
- I have also started writing articles that I can post on social sites like Medium and Linkedin. Both to showcase my knowledge and to drive traffic to the YouTube channel in order to gain more exposure.
- Each day I'll locate companies hiring and tag their social media account on that day's coding video. Plus add them to the list of places to apply to
- Over the next few days, I'll work on cleaning up my Linkedin profile and creating a resume/cover letter that I can customize for each company.
- Once those are ready I'll begin submitting them to the list I mentioned above.
- I'll update the portfolio reference on the CV as each coding project is completed.
- Since I'm worried about coding interview questions I'll spend time on sites like hackerrank.com to improve my skills.
What do I need the help for and what will any donation be used for?
With no funds for food or shelter, I'm still in full-on emergency mode, which is taking its toll on my mind and my health. I haven't had a good or full night's sleep in a week! I need to take care of these two basic needs as much as possible so I can focus on the tasks I listed above.
I'm also worried about where I'm sleeping and my safety during these cold months. (Colorado's been a bit warmer than normal so I've been lucky so far, but it is dropping below freezing each night here lately.) There's also the chance that I could get approached by the police and given a trespass citation. Ruining a perfectly spotless police record. (Except traffic violations)
Side note: this really has got me thinking about how hard it got to be for those who don't have a car to sleep in or have dealt with homelessness for longer. Everything just keeps adding up making it even harder to overcome. That's a topic to focus on when I am stabilized but you bet your butt I'm grateful for what I do have no matter where I'm at and more open-minded to the issues.
Here are some links to follow along with the tasks I mention above:

Salvation Army (For all those who are dealing with or facing homelessness)
I hope you're able to follow along as I work to build these profiles up. The first Medium article will be posted shortly after this is posted. It will be called 'How I Became a "Homeless Software Developer"'. The article goes into detail about what happened that lead me to be in this position.
Thank you for reading this and for any help you can offer. Here's to a bright future for us all.
