Food Not Bombs Columbus Park - mutual aid distro
Donation protected
Food Not Bombs is an anarchist network of mutual aid groups that utilize resources in their community to provide free vegetarian meals and daily essentials to people in need. We started serving in the Columbus Park homeless encampment in 2021 and have distributed thousands of meals, hygiene kits and more to the hundreds of unhoused residents of the park - one of the largest encampments in the Bay Area. Your donations would go directly into sustaining our operation by purchasing our weekly consumables: food containers, ice, electrolyte drinks, toiletries that all get distributed. We also source fresh vegetables and fruit from food banks and agencies in the community and would welcome any references.
Many families live at the park due to economic hardship, some with young children. Many other park residents have mental health and substance abuse issues and cannot access any services to help them improve their circumstances. The City of San Jose has deployed SJPD and private companies to harass the unhoused and force them deeper into the park and further from life-sustaining services like clean drinking water and bathrooms. Violent crime and theft is rampant, yet the city's solution to this widespread suffering is to make the residents of Columbus Park even more persecuted and deprived.
Join us in standing up to the heartless and tone-deaf leadership of City Hall, and tell our privileged electeds that EVERYONE in San Jose matters, not just their donors and developers.
Solidarity forever!
