In Loving Memory Of Mohammed Safdar a.k.a Saf (16th April 1984 - 10th May 2019)

Mohammed Safdar (Saf) was a well-known figure within the community of Derby who touched the lives of many. Through his Shaykh’s teachings, Saf made it his personal goal to support the less fortunate people of Derby and many countries around the world regardless of race or religion. His kindness and compassion reached far and wide to both the youth and the elderly. The youth were taken of the streets, the homeless were fed a hot meal every week (ongoing) and several destitute families were financially supported in secret.

“Saf came into our lives and left his footprint in our hearts. Without a doubt, he taught us that the idea is not to live forever, rather it is to create something that will”
(words said by a friend shortly after Saf’s passing)

In January 2017 our dear brother Saf gathered a team of friends from the community and led an initiative of feeding the homeless people of Derby. Through the support and kind donations from local businesses and friends, Saf & his team went out to various homeless shelters and rough sleepers across the city distributing hot meals including fruit, snacks and drinks. Saf made it clear to the team that we will provide food as if we are providing it to our loved ones, thus ensuring the meals were packed in a respectful & dignified manner. Initially chicken curry & rice was distributed which was later switched to chicken & chips! The gratitude and response received from the homeless and rough sleepers was immensely rewarding which led on to formalising the group named ‘Community One’ - the purpose.... together we can make a difference.

Saf led this project with great enthusiasm and passion. He would ensure that time is spent talking to the destitute & needy. He built a great relationship with many homeless people and acted as a mentor & a shoulder for them to cry on. The empathy towards others helped many better their situation and lives, and in one case a recovering alcoholic later went on to become a mentor himself through the inspiration of Saf.

Saf had a very generous heart, always at the forefront of giving to the poor & needy. He travelled across the world to help people. He was very active in humanitarian work in many 3rd world countries. Saf would support many widow & orphan families in the Sindh province of the country. 75% of rural Sindh is below the poverty line. It is a region that is often neglected by many charities due to difficulties including infrastructure & security. Saf worked closely with Tahiri Foundation on the ground to help feed as much people as possible.

As a form of Sadaqah Jariah (ongoing charity) for him, we will be raising funds to help continue providing support to the organisation & families Saf worked with. A target of £3000 has been set which will give us the ability to provide food packs for 100 widow & orphan families. Each pack will cost £30 and will provide food essentials to last a family one month. These food packs will be distributed before the end of Ramadan enabling needy families to have a joyous Eid.

Please note, this project is zakat qualifying.

Please donate and allow his positive influence to reach as many people as we can.

If like us, Saf has touched your life, this could be an opportunity not only to benefit yourself, but also benefit our loved ones in the hereafter.

May Allah swt raise our dear brother Safdar’s ranks & forgive him of any short comings.

JazakAllah Kheiran.
