Food support for Wat Svay Village, Siem Reap
Hi Pouv and Mel here,
We need your help to assist the people of Wat Svay village in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
As you know, Covid is impacting people all over the world. Without tourists coming to explore places such as Angkor Wat since March 2020, Pouv's home town of Siem Reap in Cambodia is feeling the long-term impact in a way we can only imagine in Australia.
Increased cases of Covid, including the impact of the delta variant has resulted in ongoing lockdowns.
Lockdowns mean no schools open, no work along with market and food stall closures.
No money means no food. There is no safety net for people in Siem Reap.
We want to provide support for families in our village, Wat Svay (Mango Village).
These are families Pouv has known all of his life. It's not our family - it is those most struggling in the village. They are in really desperate situations.
Our goal is to provide food packs to help as many families as possible who need it most in the community.
Each pack will contain:
1 kg dried fish
1 kg dried sausage
20 eggs
12 tins sardines
1 bottle fish sauce
1 bottle soy sauce
500g salt
1 box (24) instant noodles
6 cotton face masks
1 box (50) disposable masks
500ml hand sanitiser
25kg rice
Each family pack costs $100 AUD
How is it coordinated in Siem Reap?
Some of you may know Pouv's Mum (or Yay as she is known). She is in charge of organising the packs on the Siem Reap side. She will do this with the the help of the rest of our family to ensure that those most in need get some help when they most need it.
The impacts of Covid to the community in Siem Reap and the Wat Svay village is one we cannot sit back and simply watch. People there are doing what they can, getting vaccinated, wearing masks, staying home and helping others. Now is the time for us to help.
The love and welcome the community extends to all that visit Siem Reap is like no other. Their home becomes yours, nothing is too much to make you feel part of the experience of visiting this wonderful part of the world. Being able to give back in a time of need is the least we can do.
Any contribution will help. It might be $2, $10, $20, $50 or if you are fortunate enough , it may be $100 that you can contribute. If you can't donate, we ask kindly if you can share, so that someone else who may be in a position who can donate.
Thank you.
Pouv and Mel
