Foodbank launches £100,000 emergency appeal
Hackney Foodbank supports people who are in crisis or trapped in poverty with compassion and dignity. We do this by providing emergency food parcels, which offer practical, immediate relief in moments of crisis, and by connecting people with local organisations that can help them to address the root causes and wider effects of poverty in their lives.
An emergency appeal has been launched as Hackney Foodbank struggles to cope with a huge spike in demand and a fall in donations. We hope to raise at least £100,000 to see us through what staff describe as: “the toughest time in living memory.”
In 2017, Hackney Foodbank spent just £2,000 per year on food, in 2018 the figure was £7,000. In 2022 we spent around £125,000 and this year, as conditions worsen for poorer families, that figure is expected to reach £250,000.
£39 could help towards feeding a family of 4 for three days with a parcel of food and household items. Any donation would be much appreciated. Your donation towards our Emergency Appeal will help contribute to buying food and household items, and help fund our Phone to Food project.
Thank you to all who have donated to our emergency appeal already and we would like to especially thank our long-term corporate partner Pip & Nut who generously donated £16,456 to the campaign.
