FoodBlessed: Beating Hunger in Lebanon

Donation protected
Lebanon has been suffering for more than three decades and needs your support. The past two years (2020-2021) were exceptionally tough and devastating, making an increasingly large portion of the population in Lebanon (Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians, Iraqis...) vulnerable to hunger.

Beginning of October 2019, Lebanon had an economic and financial crash which resulted in a devaluation of the Lebanese Pound by 90% (still in decline) and restrictions on money withdrawals and transactions. The crisis was exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, by political instability, and by, most recently, Beirut’s blast. On August 4th, 2020, a huge blast struck the heart of Lebanon and its capital city of Beirut, leaving the Lebanese community with more deep scars. The blast killed more than 178 persons, left more than 6,500 injured and 300,000 homeless, and severely damaged public health infrastructure and medical facilities. By 2021, unemployment reached a record high, and access to food and medical services became extremely difficult and, in many situations, not possible.

What is FoodBleesed?
Co-founded in 2012, FoodBlessed is a local hunger-relief and food-rescue non-profit organization working to reduce the number of hungry people in Lebanon while ensuring no good food goes to waste. The community-based and volunteer-driven program provides an effective and efficient solution to hunger while addressing Lebanon's severe and growing food waste problem.

Mission:
• Unite and nourish communities through the power of food, social responsibility, and volunteerism.

Goals:
• Hunger relief: Working with volunteers and donating partners to prepare meals and food boxes for Lebanon's underprivileged and needy communities.
• Food rescue - Recovering surplus food from social functions and excess/close-to-expiry products from fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and retail companies. Upon recovery, food is provided in meals to people in need.

2020-2021 Achievements:
FoodBlessed launched #beathungerlb in October 2019. In the past two years (2020-2021), FoodBlessed had successfully prepared and delivered 25,000+ food parcels and 200,000+ meals to underprivileged families and vulnerable communities across Lebanon.
