For Brian to Recover&Rebuild - Abaco, Bahamas

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Nathalie, I’m a French schoolteacher and I’m starting this fundraiser for my boyfriend Brian Roberts, with his sons, Lance (24 years old) and Bronson (26).

Brian is a native of the Bahamas and a survivor of hurricane Dorian. He has diabetes.
Our story was published in the French national news : https://www.liberation.fr/planete/2019/09/05/bahamas-les-autorites-redoutent-un-bilan-vertigineux_1749505

Brian is a long time resident of Hope Town, Elbow Cay, Abaco. He has worked very hard for many years as a licensed electrician in Hope Town. He is the most humble and generous person I know. He would never start a fundraiser for himself. However, he desperately needs help, so here we are doing it for him, because we love him.

On September 1, Brian lost everything to hurricane Dorian.

Brian’s house is uninhabitable. His roof was severely damaged, windows were blown in even though they were shuttered, and everything in his house has water damage and mold.

Brian wants to rebuild, but it is a long road ahead because Dorian has devastated everything on the Abaco Islands. If you have seen the pictures in the news, the damage is catastrophic. Almost everyone has fled or is missing. That is why Brian also lost his income. There is no work and no money.

Brian fought hard to survive and to protect the family who found shelter with him during the hurricane. I didn’t hear from him for almost 72 hours and I didn’t know if he was dead or alive – Brian has diabetes. For two horrendous days, the storm wouldn’t leave them alone. The following few days were also rough. Although Dorian had passed, it had decimated all resources - no fresh water, food or electricity, and it was very hot again. It was not safe or healthy to stay there – and it still isn’t. Like everyone else who had experienced the trauma of the hurricane, Brian needed to leave his island, get his medication and recuperate. He was exhausted and very, very, sore. He was eventually evacuated to the US, where he is now safely recovering.

What now ?

We are grieving but also looking to the future. Brian and I want to be together and we can’t be in the Bahamas at this point. The plan is for Brian to get a work permit in France because that is where I have a job. Unfortunately, the immigration process to France is a very hard, complicated and long process that could take many months to complete.

Brian is a skilled, experienced and licensed electrician, as well as the hardest working and most reliable person I know. But right now his situation and his future are uncertain. He is in the US, however his visa doesn’t grant him the right to work.

That is why we came up with the idea of a fundraiser for Brian. We have never done this before, but this is a catastrophic time for him. Your help will give us hope that there can be a better future after Dorian

The overall goal is to help Brian stay safe and healthy, and help him rebuild his life, which means :

1.     Help him pay for his diabetes medication

2.     Help him rebuild his house in Hope Town so it is habitable

3.     Help him have some resources to live for the time that he’s not allowed to work

4.     Allow him to help his sons aged 24 and 26, and his two grandkids, aged 2 and 3, whose lives have also been impacted by Dorian

To this end, we would be immensely grateful for any contribution you could make. No amount is too small. Any contribution would be very much appreciated and very useful.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and donations. ❤️
If you have any questions, please ask. If you can, please kindly share our campaign.

When you are in the Bahamas or in France, please reach out.
And if I travel through the US we can meet too.
We would love to meet you.

Nathalie, with Lance and Bronson – for Brian who we love (and when you meet him, you will love him too.)
