My name is Sarah Hornung. I live in Buffalo, NY. In the last two weeks I have been both heartbroken and angry at the horrendous acts of gun violence in my hometown of Buffalo, NY and in the elementary school in Uvalde, TX. As a teacher, mom, and human, I have felt helpless by the weight of these tragedies.
During my last training run for the Buffalo Half Marathon tonight (5/25/22), I ran past the elementary school where my children go to school. The lights were on in the classroom as it was being cleaned, and through the window I saw my child's name in big letters on a beautiful display of art. I smiled, and then an overwhelming feeling of anger, fear and sadness set in thinking about the tragedy in Uvalde. All parents can relate to that feeling where a seemingly pleasant moment can be ruined by your worst fears running through your mind. It was in that moment I realized I had the opportunity to use this upcoming race to make a difference. What if in a few short days when I run 13 miles, I could raise $1300 (or more!) for a grassroots organization that is helping fuel a volunteer-driven movement for a future free from gun violence?

Please help me raise money for Moms Demand Action and Everytown as I run the Buffalo Half Marathon this weekend, wearing orange in support of gun sense and safety in America, and to honor the victims of these senseless acts of gun violence.
Moms Demand Action was founded by Shannon Watts, a mother of five. The day after the Sandy Hook tragedy, Shannon started a Facebook group with the message that all Americans can and should do more to reduce gun violence. The online conversation turned into a movement of moms, dads, students, families, concerned citizens, and survivors working together with partners in the gun violence prevention movement to end this uniquely American crisis. Moms Demand Action is a part of Everytown for Gun Sense. You can read more about both organizations by visiting https://www.everytown.org/ and https://momsdemandaction.org/
Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution.
