For Casey Newton; mini fat bike fundraiser!
Donation protected
On April 3rd this year I’m going to be doing the Devon Dirt…..on a 20” wheel kids fat bike. The event itself is approximately 37.5 miles long. But just to add a bit of spice, I’m going to ride from Drewsteignton to the start in Ashburton, do the event and then ride home; so approximately 10,159 feet of ascent over 78 miles, It’s going to be tough, but I’ve been inspired by one special lady;
In April 2021, Casey Newton; a fellow mountain biker suffered a life changing accident on her bike, resulting in her crushing her ribs, vertebrae and spine. The initial prognosis was bleak, being paralysed and told she’d never walk again, her life would be drastically changed.
Yet since that day, Casey has been an absolute pillar of determination, strength and resilience, beasting her recovery goals and possessing a will that I wish I had 10% of!! Some of the days have been filled with tears and others smiles, but her will to not give up, but take things head on are massively inspiring for young and old people alike. The mountain bike community are awesome, having lifted her spirits, put their hands in their pockets, smiled for her and shared her story.
Casey and her partner Jay, still have a long road ahead, with the cost of the physiotherapy ongoing and adapting to the lifestyle changes now needed.
Having bumped into Casey a few years ago whilst out riding with friends, a brief encounter but was enough for me to see her passion and excitement for all things outdoors and riding. One thing I remember vividly from that day was her smile, it was infectious! Jay is a fellow mountain bike coach, super chilled and passionate about getting kids in particular into their riding.
I’d love to be able, with your donation (if you can) help them going forward, by raising funds for them to help alleviate the associated costs.
Any help would be mega, I know things are tough at the moment, but if you can help it’ll mean the world to Casey and help push me on to the end.
Cheers,
Tony.
