Please help our family in memory of Stevie G

My sister Alex, our mother, Sheila, & myself are mourning the loss of our Dad & Sheila's husband, Stephen Michael Gallant, who we lost on January 13th, 2024 after a 2 year battle with cancer. We thought it was only right to share what a great guy Steve was & some of his story along with our memories.
My Dad led an active life in service, joining the Navy during Vietnam as a SeaBee in southern California. After being honorably discharged Steve decided to become a brother in the Newton Fire Department where he enjoyed 32 years at the Station on Comm Ave & Route 16. On his days off he owned & operated G.I.U. Roofing Company, taking pride in improving homes all around the Newton area. Dad also played softball for some time in Newton & was a lifelong dedicated & knowledgeable New England sports fan. He & Mom met in '76, married in '81, bought their house in '84 & settled in Norton where they went on to have myself & then Alex 9 years later. In their spare time they made lifelong friendships with amazing neighbors, poured love into the house - keeping the original charm but still making it their own - taking us to Disney & every year a trip to Old Orchard Beach & then Salem in the fall. Horsehoes, gin rummy, roasting marshmallows, playing basketball, taking us on rides - no matter the fun, Dad was up for it. Stevie was a fantastic griller, but everyone knew to stay away from the grill while he was cooking! He always loved having a good cookout with family & friends that always made it even more enjoyable & memorable. Dad took pleasure in playing a game of Keno over a cold glass of Gansett at GOAT City, going to the beach (Onset or Old Orchard), & especially hanging out with his granddaughter Amy.
We miss him very much every day & although Stevie was sick for a while it's still a shock to not see him walking up the walkway with his daily newspaper from Michelle's Corner Store or sitting on the porch with his coffee or asking for help with his TV when I visit my Mom. Nonetheless, Dad was sent off peacefully the way he wanted & deserved, with Military Honors & laid to rest next to his big brother Ned at the National Military Cemetery in Bourne, followed by a time at the Norton VFW he would have been proud of. Together we appreciate all who came out to honor & celebrate my Dad's life.
As our family grieves, & although we do not like to ask anyone for anything, we could use all of the help we can get towards funeral expenses & we greatly appreciate any we may receive. *God bless*
