Dear friends and family,
In mid-April, my brother-in-law Jaime, received a life-changing diagnosis for which there is currently no cure…stage IV colorectal cancer that had metastasized to the liver. He has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments with the cancer care team at Duke Cancer Center since April. The prognosis has taken a recent turn with the liver tumors becoming more aggressive. Jaime and his wife Amy have since sought expertise from Memorial Sloan Kettering and Mt. Sinai Hospitals in NYC, teaming up with surgical oncologists, transplant specialists and hepatologists for more advanced options.
For those who know Jaime, you know how much he gives of himself to others. He is always willing to help where help is needed. He is a family man through and through and loves his wife and kids to the moon and back. Jaime and Amy are raising two small children, 7 and 8 years old. Jaime enjoys coaching baseball and being involved in his kids’ activities, something that brings back fond memories of him and his dad. He loves to cook and grill just about anything and makes the most amazing homemade pasta and mixed drinks! Almost nine years ago, he decided to make a career change and went through training to become a police officer. He has taken on that role with extraordinary pride and has since served the University of North Carolina and the surrounding community in Greensboro as an Officer, Detective, and now as a Sergeant. At the same time, he has been taking classes for the last 3 years to complete his Master of Public Administration. Jaime has fully embraced his situation, and with courage, strength, and support, plans to see many more years of this beautiful life! If you know Jaime, you also know how stubborn he is. Every year on 9/11 he walks 110 flights of stairs in remembrance of the lives lost. This year it took him a bit longer: he had to use a railing and a walking stick, but he completed all 110 flights! Cancer picked the wrong person to mess around with.
As you can imagine, the costs for treatment, surgical procedures, and travel will be significant and will severely impact their family life. We would like to pull together to help with those medical bills so that they can focus on keeping their family strong. In so many of these situations there is only so much we can do beyond our thoughts and prayers. We often feel helpless! By giving toward their medical costs, you are doing something immensely helpful. Everything donated will be given directly to the Young family for those medical bills. Help us to lessen the burden of cancer for Jaime and his family.
If nothing else, please share this page and continue praying and providing your support and strength for Jaime in his journey to kick the crap out of cancer and achieve remission!
We are forever grateful for your support. #YOUNGSTRONG!!
