For Joey Huerta's Family

Joey was loved by so many people because of his genuine kindness, his sense of humor, and because he was an exemplary human being. Those of us who knew Joey know what a devoted father and husband he was. A testament to that was: (1) how involved he was with his daughter’s softball as well as (2) how Joey would squeeze his long legs into amusement park kiddy rides just to ride next to Joseph. Joey was great at baseball himself, but I think that with a combination of how fun he made it for her as well as with the amount of time he devoted, his daughter, Ariel, is going to surpass Joey’s skills (you know it’s true, Joey!). …and although Joey is gone, his beautiful sense of humor lives on through his son, Joseph. Joey was such a great dad and it is evident that he had such a positive impact on his kids because they both have huge hearts just like him and like their mom, Liz.
Like many of you, I was devastated to learn of Joey’s passing. He fought as hard as he could; he coded once and despite his then-prognosis, Joey was resuscitated and fought for almost two more weeks. Our hearts are broken for his children, for his wife, for his mom, his brothers, sisters, and countless friends who will miss him immensely. I wanted to ask for your financial help in covering some of the unforeseen longer-term costs that will undoubtedly arise. Liz did most of the heavy lifting at home running the 24X7 household, and as most of us parents and grandparents know, chauffeuring the kids to school and their activities while holding down a part-time job. Joey, on top of being a super dad, was the main financial provider in the household. Joey’s family has undoubtedly suffered an immeasurable loss. Your financial support will help minimize any other monumental changes in Liz, Ariel, and Joseph’s lives.
As I write this, my heart is broken because not only did I experience, first-hand, his kindness and the privilege of exchanging laughter with Joey, but because I was able to witness how much Joey loved his family. When we lose a loved one, we search for any way to keep some kind of connection to them. On a personal note, my hope is that Ariel can continue to play softball so that she can continue to excel in it and forever feel that connection with Joey, and that Joseph can continue to feel connected with Joey by continuing to live in the home where so many beautiful memories were created.
I want to thank you in advance for your generosity, and I want us to honor his memory by striving to perform acts of kindness as Joey so often did. Thank you once again.
