In October 2019 my family's life changed, when my mum was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer aged 66. Her diagnosis came out of the blue; she had no symptoms prior to her diagnosis and no risk factors.
Searching the internet, my heart sank. The statistics are scary: Pancreatic cancer is the 8th most common cancer in Australia with an estimated  3,933 people diagnosed in 2020. Pancreatic cancer has  one of the highest mortality rates of all major cancers with only 9.8% of patients reaching the 5-year survival mark. An estimated two thirds of pancreatic cancer patients die within the first year of diagnosis.

My mum is determined to beat the odds; she is battling through chemo and making sure she is living her life to the fullest.  She is resilient and brave and I am very proud of her.





To support my mum and other patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer I plan to raise funds for Pancare Foundation. To get more attention and I will go even one step further and shave my hair during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month, November 2020.
