For my sister Amelia diagnosed with Brain Cancer

My beautiful sister and best friend Amelia was recently diagnosed with a Glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer uncommon in young people. She was only mildly symptomatic when she noticed weakness in her arm and leg. She quickly sought medical attention, had an urgent MRI and on October 21/21 underwent emergency neurosurgery to have the bulk of the tumor removed. Moving forward she will pursue radiation and chemotherapy, however there is no cure for this type of cancer. Though we are eternally optimistic and dedicated to making the absolute best of the time we have, we also have a healthy understanding of her diagnosis and appreciation for the preciousness and impermanence of life.

For those of you who know Amelia you will know her for her laugh, her sense of adventure and her absolute fire zest for life. Amelia currently lives in Queensland, Australia where she recently completed Medical School at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. She is currently about to begin her 'Regional Medical Officer' year (which is equivalent to her 2nd residency year in Canada). She lives on a sailboat with her soul mate, adventure partner and Husband Tim and their African Basenji puppy Gillie. Amelia has passion and love for cycling, triathlon, sailing, traveling, art, cello, her mates and most of all Medicine.

Amelia gave up everything to pursue her dream of becoming a Doctor. Both her and Tim sold their property and possessions to up-route and restart their life in Australia. She also spent over a quarter of a million dollars to attend medical school. This is a fear held by many physicians before the completion of their training... what would happen if you invested everything into becoming a doctor and then weren't able to practice?

We are asking for your generosity and support to reduce financial burden during Amelia's battle with brain cancer. We can only hope that she will be back to work healing and saving lives soon, however are preparing for all other possibilities. In our best case scenario, we won't need the help and will donate these funds to supporting other young adults diagnosed with cancer. In the worst case, your generosity and support will ease the financial fears my young Physician Sister currently holds.
