Stray Dogs in Armenia in Desperate Need for Help
Donation protected
I am here with the hope of getting support to care for the stray dogs that I have been attending to for over 5 years. My desire to take care of these creatures started with the recognition about their belonging.
The human race has been in a continual fight for division: division of territories, of cultures , of beliefs, etc. But dogs are different in that they agree to share the planet earth and speak the same language without any aspirations for division. Their only fight is to survive.
Another thought that has been a source of concern for me is the inhumane attitude of humans towards dogs. Earlier in history when our ancestors were fighting for the colonization of the Earth, dogs were needed; we took them away from their habitat and tamed to provide defense against animals they used to live peacefully with. We untaught them the skills they inherently had for survival. But then what? As soon as we humans invented ‘more powerful’ weapons for defense, we readily got rid of these animals, leaving their survival to chance. The picture we have now is distressing. The discrimination we demonstrate towards each other is fully practiced with regards to these loyal creatures as well. Those dogs who are lucky enough to be born into a rich family are pampered to an extent that many children would dream of. Their inability caused by human taming years ago is none of a problem. However, those puppies who are born in the streets are forced to find food while their eyes are still half-open.
The above presented scenario has reached indescribable levels in Armenia; a great number if dogs are wandering the street foraging for food in trash bins and spend much of their life with empty stomachs. Many are hit by cars and left in the middle of the roads until their bodies are flattened by the tires of the many cars driving over. Some are killed by merciless people for fun.
Witnessing all this, I have been investing all my time and money in the protection of stray dogs in Armenia. I have two dogs of my own at home, and have been renting shelters for the many dogs I have found on the streets with injuries lying here and there. However, failing to gain the support of the local authorities which are busy with tasks targeted at finding food for the population, I feel I can no longer take care of the dogs under my care.
Thus, it is with genuine hope that I am turning to you for support. I have sterilized and vaccinated the dogs currently residing in the shelter I have rented. I am desperately trying to find owners for my dogs, but Armenians are only concerned about their daily needs and do not give any thoughts to the creatures that may be starving next to them.
Hence, I would highly appreciate if you could support me in finding homes for the dogs abroad. Unlike Armenians, people from other countries do not discriminate against dogs who have been unlucky to be born into the streets and who do not sell at high prices.I can no more witness people kicking the stray dogs and treating them like vermin. Nonetheless, my financial inability to take care of them any longer has become a serious issue. All my salary and free time I allocate to them, but desperately need the help of those who share my vision about the creatures that have assisted the human race to conquer the world.
The gazes of these dogs aimed at me are full of sorrow, and I wish to make their tails wig at the arrival of their owners who would love them and provide them with the warmth breed dogs receive.
After all, if we fight for equality, we should not limit our efforts to humans only.
Yours faithfully,
Ruzanna Gasparyan
