For The Corbett - And All The Corbetts

Some of you may know, the incomparable Mark Corbett lost his Dad, John Corbett, yesterday after a long illness. Mark and his Dad were inseparable and Mark was constantly by his Dad's side in the last year of his life. He was known to care his him and would often disappear from us and ghost a Zoom call making sure his Dad made it safely to bed each night.
Mark, his mom Kathleen and brother, John, have been part of the UMass Band family for more than 20 years. We have had the pleasure of getting to know Mark's family as we have all grown from our college years to starting families of our own. Mark, Kathleen and John have been staples to that journey.
What can we say about Mark Corbett? Better known as "The Corbett," Magic Marker, #387PuftonSurvivor, or lately, Jerry Garcia I have seen Mark in a light that is simple: Constant. Always present. Friend. Bando. Brother. Son. Caregiver.
When Mark shared the new of his Dad's passing, a group of Mark's closest friends immediately sprung into action - because that is what Mark would do. Now it is our turn to pay it forward to him, for "The Corbett" and more importantly to honor John's memory, his service to his country and The Corbett Family.
Anything you can give will go directly to Mark and his family to help fund funeral related expenses and anything else the family may need during this difficult time. For those of you who are interested, I am also looking into getting a Meal Train started to send all our love and strength to the Corbett Family.
Our UMass Band Family and beyond is so unique and so vast. The late, great George Parks once said, "Make it Crazy." I will leave it to Mark's closest friends and you all to share as appropriate. Let's help out as much as we can.
