For the love of Darwin.

Tax deductible
This fund is for all the stray kitties in the East Bay.  I lost my beloved Darwin cat on October 24, 2017, when he was hit and killed by a speeding car.  He was a pretty extraordinary cat, and you can read a little about him here: http://www.berkeleyside.com/2017/10/30/fans-mourn-loss-darwin-retriever-cat-north-berkeley/

While the pain of losing my lovey is getting a little less painful this week, I am still struck by the senselessness of his death.  He touched so many people in his short life.  I'm sure I will someday understand how many people were touched by his antics.  For now, I am trying  to get some sort of tangible positive outcome to help me heal.

I have been a direct recipient of the services of Fix our Ferals.  I am on their mailing list, and most days I can't even read the list of colonies in need of help/relocation/feeding/TnR.  This isn't a go-cuddle-a-kitty non-profit.  They routinely get calls from people threatening to "remove" or "destroy" feral colonies. Relocating a colony of stray cats is a nearly impossible task.  These few volunteers take on more and more emergency situations, I don't know how they have the strength.  They attempt to educate neighbors and resolve disputes, and distribute TnR (Trap Neuter Return) information in frequently hostile situations (in multiple languages!).  They also operate a spay and neuter clinic, in Richmond, CA for their colonies, and offer low cost  services to the public.

I had an idea that if each of Darwin's Facebook fans gave five dollars, 60 cats could get spayed, microchipped, and treated for fleas.  This would be the best possible thing I could take from this whole awful experience.

I tried to time Darwin's posts around the worst of the news stories of 2017, to try to help lift people's spirits, or to at least give a distraction from all the negativity.  If you are a fan of Darwin, and he helped your mood, even for a minute, I ask that you donate $5 to Fix Our Ferals.

Thank you for the outpouring of love and memories from Darwin's fans.  It has truly kept me afloat this week.

Lotsa love to all y'all,

Karen Flynn (and Sid Bubby and Tom Collins and Tulip Cat)
