For The Love Of Sam Henry

Hi everyone, 

Sam's partner, Heidi Hepner here. 

As most of you know, our good friend and my significant other, Sam Henry was diagnosed earlier this month with inoperable cancer. This is an unimaginable tragedy in many ways. Scores of people in Portland and around the world are faced with the loss of a good friend and amazing human, and the music scene is losing one of its most talented and beloved players.

 

Since his diagnosis, Sam’s condition has worsened to the point that right now, the only thing we can do is to try to keep him comfortable as possible. Sam is at home, and he’s being attended to daily by myself, his family and close friends.

 

This unfortunate situation has forced many of us who are close to Sam to grapple with a lot of unpleasant realities. While most of Sam’s medical expenses have been covered by his Medicare program, there are still a lot of costs that we’ll be facing in the coming weeks as we plan for all of the things that this final life stage forces us to reckon with.

 

Please help reduce the burden that I and Sam’s family are facing in this trying time as we plan for the next steps, and to memorialize this is amazing, wonderful person who has dedicated his life to helping create the music that’s been such a big part of so many people’s lives.

Update:
Sam and I have both been located in Portland the majority of our lives, and we've been together as a couple for 5 years. The fact that Sam has passed away is still so hard to process.  Thank you for all of the continued donations towards helping his family and I cope with such a giant and unexpected loss. I'll  withdrawing these funds to cover the funeral expenses and burial costs,  hospital bills that were not covered by insurance, my loss of work due to care taking and grieving, and relocating to a new home, and any other unexpected expenses that might arise that we're currently unaware of.
