For TROY DeLEON's Recovery

You may or not know me, but I am Valerie - gramma to Troy DeLeon, 14 years old. He and his friend were in a terrrible accident Tuesday night, Sept 3rd. They were in the crosswalk on their mini bikes and an SUV crashed into both of them - and then left the scene leaving their bloodied bodies laying in the middle of the road! Thank goodness for the help of strangers - both locals and tourists. Their actions to stop traffic, call 911 and tend to the boys saved their lives. There was a third friend who was a short distance behind them and called Troy's parents as soon as he got to the crash site.
The driver was in an SUV and Troy was clipped at the front bumper, pulled under the vehicle, which rolled over his left leg breaking the femur and shattering parts of his tibia. His face was badly scraped and bruised, including his eys and a few broken teeth. Troy was rushed to Arnold Palmer Hospital. Thankfully, tests show no skull or facial fractures and he is void of any injuries to the brain.
His friend was hit at the passenger door and went through the passenger side window. He was wearing helmet but the impact was so hard that it flew off, causing more severe head injuries. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center for trauma, where he is still in critial condition.
THE DRIVER SAW THE BOYS LAYING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND TOOK OFF! A kind stranger called the police after seeing a car nearby that matched the damage of this accident and gave her witness statement (thank you!). He was found and arrested within a few hours, and at the moment, remains in jail.
Troy had surgery on Wednesday morning to reset the fracture and insert a titanium rod, as well as the other repairs to his leg. Recovery will be a very long and painful path.
Troy is a very active teenager ... always fixing or building his motors, bikes, and RC boats. He is mindful of the road rules - these boys almost lost their lives and will live with these injuries because of this guy. The family needs so much care and support for him.
