Presenting:

For We: A Multidisciplinary Memoir Project

Projected Book Launch: October 11, 2024
Projected Pre-Order: April 29, 2024

Synopsis

For We is a four-part multidisciplinary project by interdisciplinary artist, certified coach and impact entrepreneur Erin Corine Johnson , Founder of Hola Magnolia Identityworks . The title “For We” represents to whom each creative component is symbolically dedicated. The project documents a Black woman's journey from growing up between the South Side and the surrounding suburbs of Chicago, to a fateful move abroad to Spain to discover her calling as a storyteller and community-builder through music, language and writing. Themes include coming of age, identity & belonging, generational healing and self-realization.

The project consists of the production of four principal creative components: a written memoir with accompanying audiobook and mixtape, a self-paced coaching program, a full length album and a culminating documentary.

Planning and pre-production began in late January 2023. The full project is estimated to take approximately four years (2023-27) to complete.

Personal Statement

As an artist, this project is the culmination of an identity & belonging journey marked a 24-year journey as an interdisciplinary performer, a calling that has taken me from one home to another in more ways than one: physically, from one country to another—and spiritually, from my born identity as a daughter, niece and sister to my found identity as a storyteller and community community builder.

As an educator and coach, this project is a gift of knowledge and care in the form of conversation, relatable experiences, encouraging words and actionable framework. It is a blueprint for finding home within, and inviting your people to experience you squarely in your calling: in your fullness, wholeness and humanness as work towards the next best and most congruent version of you.

Lastly, as a human, this project is an effort to close a long and arduous by greatly formative chapter of my life in order to make room for all that is to come. This memoir, this project and its many moving parts are the soil in which I will plant the seeds of my personal and professional legacy.

Through this self-produced project, I hope to:

  • Use this multidisciplinary memoir model to mentor other storytellers as they stretch their creative capabilities across multiple artistic and non-artistic disciplines in order to reach greater audiences
  • Encourage other people of diverse personal and professional backgrounds—especially those of marginalized experiences— to own their unique narratives and share their experiences with the world
  • Test-drive a possible seed for future Hola Magnolia ventures into publishing and/or creative agency work

This project has been years in the making, and I am so honored to bring a lifetime's worth of friends and family and the Hola Magnolia community along this journey.

The story is already written. All I have to do now it tell it.

I look forward to sharing this process with all of you, including future early-supporter perks to be determined upon finalization of this fundraising campaign.

Thank you all for your ongoing support!

With immense gratitude for all that has brought me to this life-altering crossroads,
Erin Corine Johnson
