William's care and prayer requests

UPDATE January 2025
Prayer needs and financial assistance
Will has continued to experience the ups and downs of life which currently seem to have more extremes on the hardship side. That is not to discount the positives: he is looking into higher education, possibly pursuing architecture studies. He moved last April which allowed him to enjoy a large backyard with garden potential, trees, and a place to enjoy fires with friends.
However, he has dealt with many caregiving stresses: frequent shortage, hiring, firing, and last minute scrambling to find someone who can fill in. He continues to suffer from health issues: constant UTIs, a lung disease, uncomfortable swelling from unexplained water retention, and daily fatigue and nausea.
He recently learned that the home he is renting changed ownership in a divorce settlement which means he needs to move.
In a discouraging development relating to the caregiver shortage, it was necessary for him to spend almost all of his inheritance money (which he hoped to use for education or a house or home modifications or something for his future). He needed to hire caregivers from an agency since there were none available in the state funded network.

Through this all William continues to remain positive and calm.
We are asking for your prayers:
for enough caregivers
a good living situation
improved health
the opportunity to pursue education
a peace in knowing that all things work together for good for those who belong to God.

If you know anyone who is CDWA (Consumer Direct Care Network Washington) certified please let us know.

If you have the means to give financially we are also asking for any amount to ease his financial stress and keep reserves for emergency situations.

Thank you

UPDATE:
Thankfully Will was approved to receive funds to pay for caregivers.
Now there is a short term urgent need for the next three weeks (end of June to mid July) for caregivers Friday-Monday 10pm-am
Will needs help paying for caregivers. If we cannot find volunteers we will need to rely on fundraising again.

May 2024
Will is waiting on an annual evaluation of qualification for reimbursement for care through DSHS. Until he is approved there are no funds coming in for his caregivers. This is not a good situation!

Will was paralyzed in an accident 4 1/2 years ago. You can check out his story here: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/willdavis/journal
or read an excerpt below).

He requires and currently has caregivers morning and evening.
It would also be extremely helpful to have someone assist him late afternoon/early eveing with some meal prep, filling water, and emptying his urine drainage bag. He cannot do these on his own and it is often a scramble to make sure he is cared for. He has finally been approved for more hours but is waiting for finances to follow.

We are also looking for ways to increase his independence by finding parapeligic friendly appliances.

Any amount you are willing to donate would be greatly appreciated and would be put toward his care and independent living.

Besides monetary assistance, we would be grateful for your prayers that Will would receive sufficient care, experience improved health, and be able to find purpose, passion, and avenues to use the talents God has given.

Journal Entry by Laura Burger — June 11, 2019
On Saturday Will's life changed in mere seconds. Returning to Lakeside Academy in Minnesota after an outing with friends, the vehicle was T-boned at an intersection. Will had been in the process of changing seats so his seatbelt was off for a moment. He was ejected out of an open window. Upon arriving to the hospital it was discovered that he had significant damage to his spine and he was airlifted to another hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. He has had 2 surgeries since the accident to stabilize the spine and fuse together many of his cervical and thoracic vertebrae. At this time the doctors have concluded that due to the damage of his vertebrae Will will be paralyzed. He has no feeling from the chest down and has mild feeling in his arms. It is so heartbreaking that someone so young has to go through such a tragic event.

Our lives feel broken and jumbled just like his fragile body. We wonder why. Why would God allow something so tragic? Why do hopes and dreams and plans have to be dashed? But we know Who: God. He is in control. We know what: this accident is no accident with God. It has always been in His plan. He preserved Will's life for a reason. His plan is beautiful and marvelous beyond our comprehension and who knows how many people will be touched and changed by these events. This tragedy would be so devastating for Will and the whole family if we didn't have such a great comfort to hold onto. This brief life is still part of God's plan for Will. The God who knit him together and calls him by name and loves him more than we ever could and before he existed, continues to love him and has purpose for his sojourn here. The destination is the same but God has diverted the path Will thought to take. This way is good and he is not left alone. The completion of this journey awaits on the other side from which the pain and struggle and even the beauty and joy will seem so small in comparison to the glorious perfection and awesome brilliance that life dwelling with God will be like.

"and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain..." Revelation 21

God is the great physician who can work any miracle. He is the one who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." (Psalm 147) I still pray that God will completely restore Will's body but if that is not in His plan then I know He has something better in store.

Every day, every breath, every love, and joy is such a gift. This brief life is so beautiful and sparked with joy but is still full of the loss, brokenness, pain, and suffering that make us long for all to be made new and perfect.
