Forgotten Corner Vintage Launch!
Since I was kid, I have collected, restored, and resold vintage and antique items. I have always loved history and culture, and my past work as an theater artist always incorporated unique pieces of the past; old letters/photographs, books and tools and textiles, I’m always keeping an eye out for the well-loved and unusual.
Those things we hold close to us - an old pair of rusty skates, a medicine bottle from the Victorian era, or a stack of travel brochures from the 1960s may not always be fancy or valuable, but their stories make them dear to me.
Right before I launched Forgotten Corner Vintage in 2015, I was missing creativity in my life. Always thrifty to a fault and looking for ways to make and save money too, I started by dragging a few dressers home and repainting them while doing some other repairs, while pulling vintage/discarded furniture out of landfills and thrift shops and curbs all over the area. I decided to formally open a business- and set up a workshop to restore, repair, and update furniture/vintage finds ready for their “next act” for sale in my garage.
Over time and with the support of my amazing family, I expanded my pieces to be included in local farmers markets and added handcrafted items and artwork. I worked as a full-time nonprofit fundraiser over the past five years and built up Forgotten Corner Vintage on nights and weekends. With Covid-19, everything has slowed down and sales online and off, have been sporadic.
Now, I’ve come to a crossroads.
I recently was laid off from my job this month, (like so many folks these days), and am hoping that I can use this time to re-launch Forgotten Corner Vintage now in a permanent space! I realized very recently that endings often help us realize the beginnings of new paths. Now, I am ready to take Forgotten Corner Vintage to the next stop, but I need your help. I am really excited about this, I’ve been visualizing this for years- and, now is the time!
I have an opportunity to be a part of a very special new local storefront in Plympton, be open and accessible a few days a week year-round, offer classes and launch a website to sell online. With your support, I will be able to do the following:
· Business insurance for 1 year
· E-commerce website for Forgotten Corner Vintage
· Signage and marketing (social advertising/business cards/labels & a sign for my tent at shows)
· Inventory refresh and refinishing supplies (small items, paint, brushes, tools)
I am looking to raise $3,000 before the end of October to reach this goal. I know that these are tough times for many people, so ANY amount will be deeply appreciated.
