Help a Retired Officer After Unjust Job Loss
Donation protected
On September 23, 2024, Joseph "Joe" Pumilio, was fired from the Bear Valley Home Depot in Denver, CO, after 21 years of employment. The incident in question occurred on September 11, 2024 (two weeks prior to his termination) when Joe did his civic duty to help two Denver Police Officers in distress.
That day, two DPD officers apprehended a suspect while Joe watched from the front door of Home Depot. One of these officers had been hired by the company to serve as private security due to increased safety concerns at the store. A scuffle ensued during the apprehension on 9/11 which resulted in both officers falling to the ground in apparent distress.
Joe, a retired Security Police Officer (SPO) with the Federal Protective Forces (FDP), ran forward to help.
He followed the requests of the officers to help restrain the presumably dangerous suspect who appeared to be under the influence of substances. In the time it took Joe and a customer to help, one of the officers was able to radio for backup. No one, including the suspect, was hurt.
Joe, a retired law enforcement member and Home Depot Diamond Award winner, got fired for “breaking company policy” in order to aid two current Denver law enforcement officers. One of which was hired by Home Depot for increased security. This unjust termination of Joe's employment has threatened the livelihood of himself and his family. He wants to be able to tell his story to anyone who is willing to listen.
***Donations will go directly to Joe to help him support himself and his wife during this time. Our family hopes that funds can also go towards any necessary legal fees and helping relocate from Denver, CO to Laramie, WY.***
