Rest In Peace Wally & Peekaboo Texas Winter Storm
We did everything possible not to loose any birds. We are very sad to report we lost 2 feathered babies.
Peekaboo, a 65 year old blind Moluccan Cockatoo and Wally, age
unknown, Citron Cockatoo rescued from Hurricane Ike in 2009.
All the aviaries were covered in tarps with heat lamps, heaters and
blankets to protect them. I bought all of the blankets Walmart had plus many I already had. Many of the old and vulnerable were
moved into the adoption building, special needs building & my
house in carriers and empty cages. We spent days preparing for
the freeze that was coming.
We thought we were ready for 9 degree temperatures
(feel like -1) but we were wrong. We never thought we would
loose power because of cold temperatures and are determined
to never let this ever happen again.
We are raising money for generators, propane tank purchase,
install a water well and move a large building on site or
new construction. We have to be able to provide power and water regardless of the circumstances.
