Please help us raise $49,980 for education for 24 girls in Kenya through our Reach Hub Initiative!

Through the Reach Hub Initiative, Fortress of Hope Africa will implement a two year holistic school and community based approach to girls’ education and excellence, informed by girls' lived realities and struggle to access education in challenging environments and circumstances like poverty, insecurity, and sexism.

What will we be doing?

We will recruit 24 seventh grade girls from Dandora slums to participate in the Reach Hub Initiative. The initiative will target girls performing average and below average in school. Participants will attend eight hours of targeted coaching per week by a professional tutor during her school’s term and 20 hours per week during holidays. They will also receive access to our library and study environment, which provides internet access, computers, and books. The program will focus on math and science in addition to other subjects.

How will this impact the community?

The goal is to improve the girls’ literacy and numeracy level so they can pass and graduate with the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, ignite a culture of knowledge building, build leadership and excellence among the participants, and motivate parents and the community to support  girls’ secondary school education.

To reinforce learning, family support, and accountability, the initiative will work closely with the parents and guardians of the girls. They will undergo three training sessions per year to build their knowledge on SHRH, communication and relationship building, and economic/resource preparation to support their child’s transition to secondary school.

Reach Hub Initiative will work with six mentors drawn from the community to mentor the selected girls. Mentors will meet their mentee at least once per month online, and in-person quarterly. The goal is to act as motivators and role models for the girls, offer guidance where needed, and motivate girls to raise up to day-to-day challenges.

Why are funds needed?

Primary education in Kenya is free, but families are responsible for covering costs  for books, uniforms, and other school supplies. The initiative will support participants with these school-related costs so that no girl is sent home or unable to continue her education due to a lack of finances.

Please consider donating to further our mission and share widely with your networks!
