Foster - “encourage or promote the development of something”…

My name is Rhiannon and I am currently a freshman at University of Rhode Island, planning to become a vet.  Needless to say…I love animals!!  Because of that passion, I have em-“bark”-ed on a community service project called FosterPaw Support.  I have been raising money to assist local rescue agencies in providing support to those invaluable foster families.

Have you ever thought about fostering a dog, or cat, or even a sweet little bunny?  Becoming a foster means you are able to provide a nurturing environment for our four-legged friends waiting to be adopted.

Local rescue agencies are always looking for people and families with a genuine love of animals who can temporarily open their homes (and hearts) to shelter animals.  Some of those animals may have special needs, or may need to be saved from a kill shelter, or may need some help getting prepared for a fur-ever home.

Foster volunteers can assist a shelter animal in becoming, in some cases, healthier and, in all cases, better acclimated to life in a new home.   Shelter animals have a much better chance of being adopted after being fostered since now that animal has a “voice”….someone who can talk about their personality, how they behave, how they interact with other humans and pets!

However, being a foster does mean there is a financial commitment, and that’s where FosterPaw Support has jumped in.  Some of our local rescues can supply foster families with the basics…food, leashes, collars, bedding, crates, etc., but most of the time the rescues can only cover vet care and medication.

That’s why I started FosterPaw Support.  My goal is to build a reserve, through this campaign and additional fundraising efforts in the future, that will provide the rescue agencies with items for the animals that will support the foster families.

Fostering can be a rewarding experience, and FosterPaw Support wants to assist those volunteers who are providing animals transition from shelter to a new adoptive family.  My hope, and goal, is to send the shelter pets to the foster homes with all the basics!  With your donations, I have prepared FosterPaw Support packages with food, beds, toys, collars, whatever is needed, to send with each animal.

Having foster volunteers is so important to our local rescue groups and without those loving individuals, some dogs and cats (and bunnies) might have to be euthanized.  Foster homes give those animals a chance to be treated medically, if needed, and be socialized.  Any time with a family, away from a kennel, improves the physical, and most important, the emotional life of a shelter animal.

FosterPaw Support is grateful for all donations, no matter the amount.  Let’s encourage fostering by supporting the wonderful individuals and families who open their homes to some very sweet furry friends!
