Pi Kappa Alpha Founder's Day 5k
Donation protected
We at KSU Pi Kappa Alpha are very excited to present you with an incredible opportunity. We would like to build on the success of our 5k last year, with even more money raised to the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Pi Kappa Alpha is a non-profit social fraternity that is dedicated to developing men of integrity, intellect, and high moral character.
Brain Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation for Children is a non-profit organization that relies on generous philanthropic and volunteer support. It is the world's largest nonprofit funder of childhood brain tumor research. Their mission is to eliminate the challenges of childhood brain tumors. With the money they raise they are able to: fund research to find the cause of and cure for pediatric brain tumors, aid in the early detection and treatment of the disease, provide educational and emotional support for patients and families.
Pediatric cancer is the leading cause of death during childhood. Brain tumor's is the most common type of pediatric cancer, and also has the highest mortality rate, three times greater than that of leukemia. About 2,000 new pediatric brain tumors are diagnosed in the United States each year. Funding to find the cure for a disease that takes the lives of many children is very low compared to other cancers. According to The National Cancer Institute (NCI) in 2010, 2.16 billion dollars was spent on cancer research. Of that, 3-4% was budgeted for pediatric cancer research with less than 8% of that total specifically targeted to pediatric brain tumors. These numbers are staggering and just emphasize the importance of raising money to a cause that is not getting the attention it truly deserves.
You can do your part in helping this great organization in two ways. One way is to donate through this website. The other is follow this link http://www.active.com/kennesaw-ga/running/distance-running-races/founder-s-day-5k-2016?int= and sign up for our race this upcoming March. Every little bit helps and we appreciate your support.
