Current Urgent Needs
Aster - 6 year-old girl
Aster Abebe is a 6-year old girl with rheumatic heart disease. She cannot run and play like her friends or go to school. She gets tired very easily due to a damaged heart valve. With your generosity, Healing Valves can operate on Aster and give her the life she deserves. She wants to go to school and play with her friends.
Urgi - 18 year-old girl
Urgi is an 18 year-old girl with heart failure requiring very urgent open heart surgery. Her lungs and abdomen are infected due to rheumatic heart fever. This has caused damage to her valves.
Urgi requires replacing two new heart valves and the repair of a third. Healing Valves Ethiopia needs your financial help to purchase medical supplies for her surgery.
Urgi is from an extremely poor family in Huru Gudru Ethiopia. She is raised by a single mother.
Tena - 10 year-old girl
Tena is 10 year-old from Sanja in northern Gondar. She is unable to play and have fun with her friends. Tena has a big hole in the wall of her heart and two of the valves are severely leaking.
Semira 10 year-old girl
Semira is a 10 year-old girl from Wolisso in southern Ethiopia, but currently living in Addis. She is affected by rheumatic heart disease. Her mitral valve is severely leaking due to recurrent and misdiagnosed strep. She needs a heart surgery to repair the valve and regain her childhood.

Meet Dhabi 18 year-old boy
Dhabi is from a small town in Ethiopia called Kofele, located about 500 km from the capital city, Addis Ababa. Dhabi used to be an outstanding student. However, his grades and attendance started to deteriorate after the 8th grade due to multiple absences from school. Dhabi spent the next 5 years in and out of hospitals due to undiagnosed rheumatic heart disease.
Dhabi’s parents prayed for a miracle and that’s exactly what they got through Healing Valves Ethiopia. After careful evaluation and assessment, the team at Healing Valves Ethiopia replaced one of his heart valves and repaired another heart valve.
Dhabi is now in very good condition and has refocused his attention to being an outstanding student and eventually wants to become a medical doctor.
Meet Tewodros 14 year-old boy
Tewodros Basha is a 14 year-old boy from a Samasenbet, about 85km from the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Tewodros was discovered by a group of pilgrims from Addis Ababa as they sheltered at Tewodros’s house. After seeing Tewodros’s condition and how sick he was, the group chipped in to bring Tewodros and his mother to Addis Ababa to be evaluated by Healing Valves. Tewodros’s mother begged for her son’s life to be saved.
Healing Valves successfully conducted open-heart surgery to replace Tewodros’ leaking mitral valve. Healing Valves mobilized the volunteer heart team and the funds needed to cover the cost. A kid who could hardly walk for 5 minutes for the last 7 years was smiling and walking around the hospital four days after his surgery.
