Four Paws For Phil Nieman
Philip X. Nieman’s life changed forever in January 2018 when he was involved in a single vehicle crash, after encountering black ice while driving on Rte. 495 in Littleton, MA.
Phil was an excellent, safe driver. He wore his seatbelt. The airbags deployed. Just one horrific moment and his life, and the lives of those who care about him, changed forever.
It’s hard to imagine how one ill-fated moment can so tragically change a life forever; and the ripple effects on the lives of those closest to him.
Phil suffered a traumatic brain injury and lost his ability to remember anything prior to the accident – in medical terms: dissociative amnesia.
Phil has always been one of the most gracious and kind hearted human beings on the planet. Always willing to help anyone. Sweet, lovable Phil with a great sense of humor. Phil is a wonderful, loving husband, father, new grandfather, son, son-in-law, brother, uncle and friend with no memories of those that meant the most to him.
Besides memory loss, Phil suffers from PTSD, severe & debilitating head pain, anxiety, nausea, fatigue, tinnitus, eye pain, difficulty tolerating normal levels of light and deficits that include: cognitive and visual processing; attention; functioning; processing and judgment ……. ...... and the impact of that one moment sliding on black ice, into a guardrail, flipping onto the median goes on, and on, and on….
One thing that doctors have recommended for Phil is a specially trained service dog.
A Ray of Hope from Heaven for Phil:
Nevaeh is her name. That is “Heaven” spelled backwards.
Nevaeh is a Fox Red English Lab Pup who is being trained as a full access service dog for Phil. She will help him with the PTSD & Anxiety, comfort him, accompany him to doctor’s appointments and assist him with picking up items on the floor if dropped (the simple act of bending over to pick up a dropped item causes terrible spikes in the constant pain in Phil’s head).
The care and training of such a service dog is a costly proposition to an already strained family budget. And that’s where all of us can help.
Phil has always worked hard to earn the main source of income for his family; but now, much to his dismay, he is unable to work. His wife, Ruthann, carries the burden as much as possible to make ends meet.

Thank you very much,
