Fox Lake Fire Evacuation
Donation protected
May 4, 2023 the community of Fox Lake, which is part of the Little Red River Cree Nation in Northern Alberta was emergency evacuated due to the imposing forest fire. The fire has entered the town and most of the +3000 evacuees require immediate essentials.
My name is Sheldon Bos. I am acquainted with several members of the Little Red River Cree Nation Band Administration Team and I have been in contact directly with Fernando Laboucan of the Little Red River Cree Nation to confirm what essentials are most urgently needed. He has provided a list and I will personally rent a cargo trailer, then purchase the essential items in bulk with the proceeds of this fundraiser and be transporting them directly to Fernando at the Evacuee Centre in John D'or Prairie AB.
We are collecting cash donations versus donations of items to expedite the process and to be able to purchase items in bulk as well as to obtain items in uniform packaging size to fit in the trailer efficiently.
In the short term, until formal charitable organizations get boots-on-the-ground, this initiative will respond to the immediate need for items. Due to the urgency I hope to secure enough funds to fill the trailer and drive it to JDP in the next 24-48 hrs (Saturday/Sunday May 6 or 7) I estimate it will take +$4,500 to fill the trailer.
These are the items that will be purchased in bulk and delivered as per their request:
Baby Diapers
Baby Wipes
Baby Formula
Personal Hygiene Products
Feminine Products
As well, we may potentially include Bedding/Pillows and Camp Cots/Foam Mattresses
Thank you kindly for supporting this initiative - I will post updates directly to donors on this page and with photos on my LinkedIn feed.
